Mexican Men Go From Macho to Metrosexual
by
Shani Saxon-Parrish

Plenty of Mexican men have discovered that being a man’s man and looking well put together do not have to be mutually exclusive. Estée Lauder’s Marc Latiere’s tells WWD that Mexican sales of top beauty products for men (including Biotherm, Clinique Skin Supplies for Men, Aramis Lab Series and Clarins Men) have increased 20 to 25 percent annually over the last five years. BDF Mexico’s Diego Ferrández went on to say that Mexico is a Latin American “forerunner” in the men’s market.

Wow! We think this is a step in the right direction. We’re all for men smelling good and practicing good grooming-as long as they don’t spend more time in the bathroom than we do.

What do you think? Are you turned on or off by a man who knows his way around the beauty department?

Exhibit at Veterans Museum features Latinos, Latinas of World War II

Perham Enterprise Bulletin
Published Friday, June 12, 2009

World War II was a turning point for the United States, and the war had an impact on U.S. Latinos just as much as other groups.

It has been estimated that anywhere from 250,000 to as many as 750,000 Latinos and Latinas served in the armed forces during World War II.

After the war, more Latinos, including veterans, took active political roles to press for crucial improvements. WWII veteran Joe Bernal, whose story is featured in the exhibit, served first in the Texas House and later in the Texas Senate. Bernal was the primary author of a bill that expunged state statues supporting racial segregation and of another that created the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1969.

From My SA News:

Latinas more likely to take their lives

By Melissa Fletcher Stoeltje - Express-News

The call came from out of the blue. Come to the hospital quickly, said a friend of Crystal Trinidad, then 14.

Lupe Morin, Crystal’s grandmother, rushed to the ER, where she found her granddaughter lying in bed, her wrists already bandaged. She had gouged them earlier with a sharp object, trying to commit suicide.

“That’s when I discovered everything that was going on,” Morin said. “Crystal was tired of seeing her mother depressed, of moving from house to house. She was frustrated they never had a home where they could settle down. They were very poor, and my daughter Letty couldn’t hold down a job because of major depression. My granddaughter felt that there was nothing in this world for her.”

From Latina Style: Peggy Llewellyn Flying on Two Wheels

On this sunny but cool March day at the National Hot Rod Association Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas the thunderous motors from the zooming bikes on the slick black race track make the 35-year-old Peggy Llewellyn (loo-ellen) say, “Oh, I want to be out there so bad.”

Although, lamenting the fact that she did not expect the chill in the air and was under dressed, the pure passion this Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racer and native Texan has for this sport counters the chill and burns within.
